The final days...
This was quit a learning experience for me, that was the point right? Not growing up in the digital world this opened up many new avenues for me to explore..podcasting, photo sharing, and the zoho writer, some of my favorites. Being able to download books, music etc. from the library and take that with you on trips, for research etc...how wonderful. I will try that for sure when I am taking my next trip with a long car drive or long layover in the airport...I can be entertained and learn at the same time!!! Web 2.0 was at times a challenge and I thought "why would I need to know this or care" but overall I learned a lot and had a great time doing it. If I had another opporutunity for something like this "count me in"!
Digital Media Overdrive
This is an excerpt from the book 10-Minute Stress Manager
Emmett E. Miller, M.D., the renowned holistic physician and author, brings you a truly effective stress-management audio program.
Used by Gold Medalist/decathlete Dan O'Brien, and many other Olympic athletes, this audio features six 10-minute meditations to help bring you peace of mind, body, and soul.
When you're stressed out, just pop this into your player, and you'll be amazed by the beneficial results.
I didn't download the title but went thru the process and am excited to try it at home when I have a chance...great for trips and long layovers in the airport!

Pod cast
I can see how this would be great for libraries, some of the programs and information could be obtained by patrons at any time. This seemed very easy and a lot of libraries I looked at had a lot of information available. This was time intensive but I'm sure would get better the more familiar I became.
You tube to be or not tube be
This was my first experience with YOU TUBE and it was fasinating all the things I could find (some I really wish I hadn't). I even managed to find a short video of my granddaughters, one as a narrator for "the three little piggies" opera and the other was up to bat and got a hit at her softball game.

Web 2.0 awards
WOW, there sure are a lot of categories!!! I didn' t take the time to look at all (since some did not pique my curosity) but since I have been doing a lot of traveling lately that's the category I chose. From what I could see tfrom Farecast...it was pretty much thame as Traevlocity, expedia, etc. there are only so many airlines out there and only so many fares.....and none of them good $$. I also looked at the videos....YouTube won hands down. If patrons wanted to compare travel rates, they could do this from Farecast but with airlines guaranteeing lowest fares there would be no benefit to this site other than comparing the flights and then going to the individual websites to book. I dont' know how this application would be used in library other than patrons using it.....but they were fun to explore!!!!
Zoho better than Yoo Hoo??
Because of the atmospheric flux today I am feeling a bit "under the weather"...but will share my feelings of the zoo hoo (ooops zoho) writer. If only my brother and I had known in march that this word processing application was out there...i could have submitted my fathers obituary to the funeral director this way instead of using the Winnie the Pooh software stationery my granddaughter had installed on my mother's computer!!

What did I find interesting about Wikis?
Perhaps librarians could use a wiki to exchange information with each other...I really don't care for wikis...
Wiki's are wacky!
I must say the wikis are a little bit wacky!!! I will say watching the steps you go thru and how to communcate with each other seemed very easty until I tried to do it!! It did take me a while to figure out how to link my favorite restaurant with the link...it seemed just as easy to copy and past it. But I did it....and now I am on to something else just as rewarding!!!:)

Yummy
Delicious Big Bowl - Quinoa Recipe
2 cups white quinoa, rinsed well (make sure you rinse it well, otherwise it will be bitter!)
4 scant cups water
1 teaspoon salt
a few splashes of extra virgin olive oil
3 - 4 medium/large potatoes, cut into 1/2-inch dice
1 large yellow onions, chopped
1 clove garlic, chopped
1 cup toasted nuts (walnuts, pine nuts, etc)
1-2 cups lightly cooked asparagus, cut into 1/2-inch segments
another splash or two of good olive oil or citrus dressing
Bring the quinoa, water and salt to a boil in a large thick-bottomed pot. Reduce heat and simmer for about 20 minutes or until the quinoa opens up revealing a little spiral and is soft and pleasant to chew. If there is any remaining liquid at this point, drain it off and set the quinoa aside.
Warm a splash of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat, then add the potatoes and a couple pinches of salt. Toss to coat the potatoes and cover for a few minutes to allow the insides of the potatoes to sweat and cook. Uncover, toss again, then cook a few minutes longer (uncovered) until the potatoes start to get some color. Continue tossing every few minutes to get more color and crispness. When they are cooked through and pleasantly crunchy, season to taste with salt and scoop out onto a plate. Set aside.
In the same skillet (no need to clean) warm another splash of oil. Add the onions and garlic and cook for 4-5 minutes or until they soften up a bit.
Toss the quinoa with a splash of olive oil (I had leftover citrus parmesan dressing, so I used that). Serve each bowl of quinoa topped with potatoes, onions, nuts and asparagus. Alternately, you can toss everything together in one big bowl and serve it up family-style.
Serves 4 - 6.

Web 2.0
"These times are a changing" even in libraries. The way I understand Web 2.0 I will not ever have to go to the "library" again, it will all be at my finger tip via the web. Gone will be the days of pouring over musty books, wondering about the movie ticket some patron left as a bookmark, wondering if those spots on the pages are coffee or something we don't want to think about. These experiences as well as the experience of reading the actual book will be gone...I find that sad.
De.licio.us but not tasty
It was a bit "over whelming" to attempt the de.licio.us project..I understand the concept and can see a need for it for some techno savy invididuals but me not so much...perhaps because I did not come up during the computere age...I do not spend as much time as others do in cyber space...or perhaps I have other ways of communicating and gleaning information...what ever the reason it was an interesting segment and "eye opening" but alas "over whelming".

groovy lava lamp
As I was looking at the image generators, imagine my delight to find something that brought me back to my childhood. and how I was even more excited that I could creat my own and share with others this oldie but goodie opportunity!! My very own lava lamp, since I was not allowed to have one of those "dangerous hippy" things of a by gone era. Enjoy!

WebFeat or defeat?
I have tried webfeat and in my first attempt, I decided it should be "defeat". I decdied to give it another try, with more patience this time. I put in my home town of lansing, michigan, in the general search tab. After waiting to see what would come up these are the first two "hits" I received...
Postharvest shelf life of blueberries using biodegradable package. and
Orbital stability of standing waves for semilinear wave equations with indefinite energy.
I don't really know what I will do with this info, but it was fun to see what came up !

RSS fun
Well I managed to make it thru this lesson, and I will agree it was the most challenging to date. It is great that now I have one site I can go to and glean all my information from one spot. I never knew we had this capability (as I am technology challenged) so it was quite an eye-opening experience for me.

Technology related things I am interested in
There is so much out there that I'm sure I am not aware of I don't even know what I am interested in! I just learned how to download songs from itunes and I was pretty proud of that. I remember when the remote on our TV had a cord and we thought that was big so as you can tell I am still in the infant stage and don't know if I will ever be a grown up!!

How can blogs be used in libraries
I really have no idea how these could or should or would be used in libraries. I'm new to this and do not see the benefit or practical application for this, perhaps as I become more familiar my outlook will change.

One of my favorite poems my Mom used to recite
ANNABELLE LEE
Author: Edgar Allan Poe
It was many and many a year ago, In a kingdom by the sea, That a maiden there lived whom you may know By the name of Annabel Lee; And this maiden she lived with no other thought Than to love and be loved by me.
I was a child and she was a child, In this kingdom by the sea; But we loved with a love that was more than love - I and my Annabel Lee; With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven Coveted her and me. And this was the reason that, long ago, In this kingdom by the sea, A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling My beautiful Annabel Lee; So that her highborn kinsman came And bore her away from me, To shut her up in a sepulcher In this kingdom by the sea. The angels, not half so happy in heaven, Went envying her and me Yes! that was the reason (as all men know, In this kingdom by the sea) That the wind came out of the cloud by night, Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.
But our love was stronger by far than the love Of those who were older than we Of many far wiser than we And neither the angels in heaven above, Nor the demons down under the sea, Can ever dissever my soul from the soul Of the beautiful Annabel Lee. For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side Of my darling, my darling, my life and my bride, In the sepulcher there by the sea, In her tomb by the sounding sea.
